I am putting together a presentation for our area clubs. Only have one kidney and the Docs are a tad worried about the infection getting to it. Home and on the mend but have to take it slow for a few more weeks. Ended up back in the hospital on Tuesday night with this blasted respiratory tract infection. He has had it for less than 24 hours and he keeps emailing me about how good it is. I just pointed a local ham at it for was contemplating buying some expensive hardware/software combination for listening to digital stuff in the SWL area. Not just the NBEMS portion but Fldigi itself. The entire Fl- suite is a big win for those hard working guys. The NBEMS package just keeps getting better and better. Now, all you have to do is find someone who does HTML coding (there are a ton of web development folks out there) and have them make your own custom HTML form for NBEMS.Ĭhalk up another big win for the NBEMS programmers. We tried to set the criteria to accepting only widely adopted, regularly used, standard forms which were mostly ICS, HICS and MARS forms. Many requests were approved, and many were denied. I was the point man for requests for the additions of forms in the old versions of FLMSG which had to be hard coded by the developers in C++. I'm an extreme novice when it comes to HTML yet I managed to make a working form for testing. It will be interesting to see all the different forms that will be created now that all we need are folks with some basic HTML coding expertise. There's a bunch of custom HTML forms, mostly ICS forms, being created and uploaded to the NBEMSham Yahoo Group file section. We had a good test this evening after the US East NBEMS net on 40m with my custom form. All you need is a transceiver and a computer. And the best thing with NBEMS is it is FREE, EASY, Cross Platform (Windows, MAC, Linux), works on HF and VHF/UHF (SSB, FM simplex and repeaters) and requires no expensive hardware. Most served agencies want and need the capabilities that NBEMS provides. Jump on the air, have some fun and hone your digital emergency radio communications skills. (for the FLDIGI alphas, always use the 3.21 directory)

Regular revisions to the software and help files may seem like an inconvenience, but these changes are necessary to the improvements and additional features that the system offers. NBEMS will most certainly be undergoing new updates and improvements. Posting questions here is better, though, since we can all share in the Q&A. You can also email me at kb3fxi at yahoo dot com. If you, your club or net group would like help with testing, please drop a reply here and I'll be glad to help. The receiving stations' FLMSG then reassembles the data so that it can be saved, viewed or printed in the HTML form view.

What's really slick is, only the input data and some minimal code is imported into FLMSG for the data transfer, bypassing all the HTML coding. From there, all you have to do is click "Auto Send" in FLMSG, and the data is transmitted. This action automatically updates the data in FLMSG. The sending station then enters the form data on the browser view, then clicks submit at the bottom of the form. The sending station opens the custom file with FLMSG then clicks on edit form, which brings up the form in their default web browser.

The way FLMSG/HTML Custom files work is that all participants have the full html file saved in their custom folder of FLMSG. The full HTML files can be sent over the air with NBEMS/FLAMP file transfer protocol, or they can be distributed by email or file storing resources such as Yahoo Groups or sites like BFDIN (if BFDIN can be configured to allow. The custom HTML forms have to be copied into the FLMSG, Files, Folders, Custom folder. You will notice that there is no provision in the form for reporting "the rain stopped and the sun came out" (the infamous SKYWARN "sunshine report"). A perfect example is the SKYWARN reporting form from the NWS eSpotter site: Why are forms so important in emcomm? Forms let us guide participants to provide the specific information that the served agencies need. I made my own simple paNBEMS net participant survey form with which we are testing. The FLMSG HTML custom forms give us the ability to create forms at the request of served agencies and we can also create forms for use in our NBEMS nets. VS 2.o introduced the capability of handling HTML coded forms which still requires some expertise with HTML coding but is much easier than C++ programming. Prior to FLMSG vs 2.0, forms had to be hard coded into FLMSG in C++ programming. NBEMS / FLMSG testing continues with custom forms.
